When you run IE 5.0, open up Outlook Express and keep it open when you are running other programs. Go to the options menu in IE 5.0 , look for mail options and set it to check for mail every 5 minutes.

Hopefully, this will keep your internet connection going. If this doesn't do the trick, get a "pinger" software program.

hi carolyn,

i saw jon's answer and i hope that fixes you right up.

something caught my eye in your post...

"the internet connection just disappears, fades away, no matter what I am doing, reading or typing."

if you are typing on the web (like on SI) then your isp won't dump you. but if you're using a word processor, then it will. btw, do you have aol?

please let us all know how it works out. sorry to here about win95 going away <g3>, but you know you can still download and install the netscape browser, right? heck you could put win95 back on if you really wanted to.

your new pc sounds cool. power by the hour.

:)
