<market could weaken going into Y2K timeframe> WHAT IS THAT TIMEFRAME? I mean, haven't corps already stopped buying because of year 2K, so the worst is over (witness IBM warning) or do you forsee a massive sell off in december as we approach the new millenium? People selling out of superstition. In other words, is rational business planning at work (buy what you have to to ensure no computer glitches in 2000 and do so early) or will it be individual investor fear (something bad will happen on New Year's Eve and the New Millenium Day) in which case the panic would begin in December?

A shorter's risk is only UNLIMITED if he fails (foolishly) to buy some sort of protective call. Also, you can create a short position on cash OR margin (as I have done).

I tend to be a long, but the way RMBS has been going up and down lately I am starting to play the ups and the downs - very short term in both cases.
