I think that your post is quite thoughtful, and it does pose the only question to be answered, by both Brocade and Ancor, and their customers: Does SANbox eliminate all of most of the shortcomings you and Keylabs have identified? If so, Ancor will move to the front; if not, Brocade will remain in front.

It looks as though first HDS, then SUN, then MTIC and then Thomson thought so, or thought that any remaining shortcomings were more than balanced by other advantages. The MTIC conference call today, in which they stated that the SANbox was evaluated against Vixel and Brocade switches, with Ancor the winner, was interesting and provided more up-to-date information than the Keylabs report, which did not test SANbox.

What new, and exclusive (which eliminates Clarion, since Clarion will install Ancor switches on request because they have had plenty of success with those switches) OEMS has Brocade landed since May of this year, which will install only Brocade switches? There may be things that have not been announced publicly, by both Brocade and Ancor, so that is why I wonder.

Like I said, you posed the question correctly, but neither you nor I know where things will stand in six months, do we? Perhaps both products will work well.

Does Ancor bash Brocade to the same degree as Brocade bashes Ancor?

FC_fan,

You are obviously pro-Brocade. Can you tell us what is Greg Reyes' motive in paying KeyLabs to run these bogus tests. He knew they were not comparing apple to apple. SUN, MTIC, ADIC, Thomson chose Ancor because Brocade did not meet their requirements, pure and simple. Do you really think KeyLabs have more qualified engineers than these 4 companies?

Thank you for the post containing your thirteen technical questions. I believe that for both threads (BRCD & ANCR), that was a valuable contribution.

Someone made the comment that this is not the place to dispute technical merits. On the contrary, as a non-engineer, I am delighted when the discussion focuses on the technical aspects (particularly when it moves away from the ?Oh, yeah? Well so?s your mother!? level of discourse we?ve recently been treated to.)

I?ll be interested to hear your thoughts about ANCR?s new SANbox when available. As you probably saw from an earlier post, I declined to buy BRCD when it was ?over priced at $40? (gack! choke!), so I?ll be real interested in your take on it. Yes, it?s a fairly material bet. What?s the Chinese pictogram for ?opportunity?? It's a combination of ?Fortune? + ?Danger? Go ANCR!

BTW, I?m also seriously rooting for BRCD (as should any FC investor). As the current lead dog, the pack can?t advance if you?re not well.

Guys,

i go away for a couple of months and someone gets to be me.....this guy spells better than i do (or at least types better) and he complemented me on my FC knowledge (something none of you other ingrates did I might add) Seems rather well informed, and certainly is bringing up a number of great points.

however Mr. FC_Fan, betting a company on Sun Revenuein the FC business is not exactly a bad bet (ask Vixel) Sun ships more FC iron than ANYONE in the business. (spoken like a true 10+ year employee of Sun) (Just to save someone from writing and asking if I still have Sun Shares, yes....and I'd love to see them split 5 or 6 more times and still be 100$)

Anyway, I continue to be amazed at the number of people still saying there can only be one winner here. There has never been a market that has only one player in hte sommunicaitons business (think phone switches, routers, etc.) I now for a fact there are several companies either funded or seeking funding (and likely to get it to do FC switches) So the marketplace will get more crowded before any of them go away.

in the meantime remember ANCR is up over 30x since October 5th of last year, and Brocade nearly 20x of it's IPO price. This is NOT a dieing market or the investors would have bailed by now.

Thanks
Roy Sardina

<sigh>

You know first people starting suggesting that I was someone named Roy who used to work at Brocade. And now you and that Ancor employee who identifies himself as CRACKONLYPLEASE ..err.. FACTSONLYPLEASE on Yahoo, seem to think I am a current Brocade employee..

However, I would like to publicly state..

1) I am terribly pleased that anyone would think me a Brocade employee. If you truly have the power to do so, can you make me a pre-IPO one?

2) I've actually met the individual you now accuse me of being, at training and I am overwhelmed anyone would think me him.. The guy is a freakin FC genius and WAY more polite than I am..
