<<Currently the Airforce is asking for 1/4 degree arc minute resolution or 4 times the resolution an eye is capable of. >>

Which begs the question as to WHY our tax money is being spent on this if our eyes can't distinguish the difference!

(Still, since its going towards one of my investments, I can't scream too hard :)

The VRD on the other hand can paint with a brush, I.e multiple lines at once. This allows an increase in the resolution without pushing the mechanical limits of the scanner. The BCBL (Battle Control, Battle Lab) display scans 5 lines at once. The picture is incredible.

Thanks Mark. That would mitigate any concerns I may have had about eye fatigue. I raised this because I know everyone has a difference tolerance for "flashing" or scan frequency. My eyes (and brain) become very fatigued from a CRT at 60Hz, 65Hz is a noticeable improvement and 70Hz is still not ideal. For this reason I have given up CRT's in favor of LCD's although I am aware of CRT's available now that do not cause me trouble.
