You take me seriously too? Ah what fools these mortals be. To lessen the anxiety pains of any poor imbeciles who believed that I would handle a case for someone I don't know, about a matter I don't give much of a shit about (except as entertainment for me myself and I) let me make it clear that I (x.1) wouldn't walk across the street to spit on anyone here (although I will spit on you if we happen to be on the same side of the street and it doesn't put me out) much less help anyone (and you can't count my "helping" people stay on SI- I do that for purely selfish reasons because I enjoy those persons as entertainment- wouldn't start a thread to save someone who was boring).

Sorry to have been away. We had a super-X situation here. Somehow last night the fiber optic cable between San Juan and Lopez islands (which carries all phone traffic off San Juan Island) got cut. Ship dragging anchor? Illegal salmon net fishing? Don't know yet. But since yesterday evening there has been NO phone service off the island. No phones. No fax. No email. No web. No nothing.

Finally about 11:30 this morning they restored partial back-up service. We are getting email fine, but very slow web access and many busy signals on off-island calls as circuits just aren't available.

Of course the girls, who are used to getting emails from both of us in the evenings and again in the morning, from both Peg and me from home before we leave for work, and from me when I get to work, were worried when they didn't hear from either of us last night OR this morning. Fortunately they didn't try to call, because I don't know what kind of phone message they would have gotten. Perpetual busy? I just don't know. And of course we couldn't call them to tell them we were fine.

Ah, life on an island!!

We're sort of back, but won't be fully restored for days or weeks -- they're sending in a fiber optic cable tender, but I don't know from where, to pull the cable, find the break, and fix it. How long that will take nobody is saying. So if I'm not much present for a time, forgive me. And I won't be able to read all the backed up messages -- not enough bandwidth in the back-up systems to do that -- so point me to anything of particular interest, please.

I'll be back with you whenever. In the meantime, there are a lot of books in my reading pile that I may finally get to. Who knows, Peg may even get me to clean the bathrooms this weekend!

Take care, and think of me from time to time!!
