There's an interesting read in the Mercury News about digital video. You can check it out on-line at:

"Home movies getting new direction with digital"
By Mike Langberg - Mercury News Computing Editor

mercurycenter.com

In the article, Mike makes a number of interesting comments including: "The large hard drive is required because DV files are very, very big -- 30 minutes of DV fills about 6 GB." and "DV camcorders are expected to account for about 40 percent of sales in the United States this year, and that percentage will only go up."

Mike also points out that recent announcements from Apple (iMac DV computers), Sony (Digital 8 Handycam line) and a number of smaller companies (DV upgrade kits) have already started to kick things off when it comes to affordable and accessible home movie tools.

Folks are going to need huge drives if they want to work with digital video and create home movies. If DV camcorders begin selling as expected, I imagine there will be plenty of demand for the tools to take advantage of the technology.

T Bowl, you mentioned your concern about fading needs for high capacity (higher margin) drives. Perhaps recent DV developments along with current DV expectations for next year will help keep that all important "gotta have now" need alive and well for a little while longer.
