>>window dressing which would be complete today (ergo: trouble 11/1 and on).<<

Window dressing may be over but end of month fund buy ins last another week or so.

I am going to download my data now so hopefully I will know more. Regarding fast move up and high volume. That is normal rally reaction in a "true" bear market. This rally could give us the final verdict on what we are in. If this fails in teh next month or so, I would say the bull is definitely dead. If we go on another couple months, then the bull is alive and well. Remember that bear rallies look better than bull rallies for the short time they last. Bear rallies are caused by shorts scrambling to cover at any cost as they rush IN the door just like crashes catch people trying to get OUT the door. No one wants to sell as the price goes up so the prices keep going higher at a rapid rate as shorts have no choice but to pay up to save thier skins.

Good Luck,

Lee
