hey carolyn,

i don't know why your tech help guy says norton utilities messes up win98. it is designed for both 95/98. sounds to me like you have nu installed on your puter, but run it sparingly. that correct? here's what i suggest for right now:

go find the norton utilities readme.txt file. it can be found by going to start, programs, nu, product support, readme.txt. print it out. be aware it is over 20 pages (depending on your font setting). there are all sorts of goodies in there for you to peruse that just may point you in the right direction and get you back on the right track. and won't your techie guy be surprised! <g3>

for instance, within the first few paragraphs of the file we find:

"Before and after upgrading to Windows 98, we strongly recommend
running Norton Optimization Wizard and doing a registry
optimization. This will not only increase the efficiency of
registry size and operations, but will also ensure that you are
safe from potentially hazardous registry corruption."

your post is a testimony to the success of norton utilities, not the failure. your own experience tells you that this software can help you out of the mess, not create it. keep in mind that one can use nu from the cd-rom without ever installing it, if that becomes necessary.

i need to get going, but i wanted to send this off to you. please search out that readme.txt file. good stuff.

let us know how it works.

:)

Norton stuff ...

I use Norton's stuff on my Win98 system. WinDoc fixes things fine. The curious can monitor the fixes manually and decide which to proceed with.

Cheers, PW.
