William,

I used the 3.8 million from memory but upon checking consensus is 4.5 million

"If 35% of Amazon's total customer base has never returned for a second
purchase, what value is Amazon's total customer count?

"Is it fair to include in Amazon's 'community of online shoppers' 4.5 million or
so people who aren't currently active?" Von der Porten asks.

For his part, Blodget says he remains a long-term believer in Amazon's amazing
story, but thinks the company's shares are due for a near-term hit. "At some
point soon, we believe investors will become as tired as we are of the endless
postponement of gratification," Blodget said."

The rest of the article is interesting too.

I can't say anyone can confirm a lot of the numbers there. There is a lot of projection going on.
