PB, <Otellini stated there are currently four .18 fabs in operation with a fifth scheduled to come online early next year.>

Kind of mind-boggling if you ask me. Each fab is like worth a few billion dollars in capital equipment. Each fab is capable of cranking out a few hundred thousand CPUs per week, at the very least. Add to that the small die sizes of the mainstream Coppermines and Intel's experience in high-yield manufacturing, and we've got one hell of a production machine.

Seems like IF (and that's a big IF) each of AMD's two fabs can match the yields and unit output of each of Intel's fabs, AMD can potentially reach 33% marketshare. Toss in lower yields, maybe a slower ramp-up, and the larger die sizes of Athlons (present and future), and AMD will be hard-pressed to meet Jerry Sanders' goal of 30% marketshare.
