Other than that, I can't think of a better reason or
may be they are stockpiling to prepare the sudden
surge demand by end of this year due to Y2K, like those
bank notes <G>

You might be grinning, but if you asked me, I would attribute the Coppermine inavailability to 820 Camino. Perhaps most of the OEMs weren't really enthusiastic about featuring Coppermine on any other platform, like 440BX, 810e, or even VIA's chipset.
