Jim - RE: "A Pee-III-700 Compaq has appeared in Best Buys flyer this morning. You have to order it."

Did you notice the advertisement says 512K L2 cache? Either these guys have no idea what they are selling or they don't want the PIII to look bad next to the Athlon on the left which also has 512K L2 cache. ;)

"There are 3 Athlons, 3 P-IIIs (one an e-machines 500 of all things), a K6-2-475 and a 2 Celerons, all desktop. AMD has 2 notebooks and Intel 1 Celeron"

Speaking of notebooks, Circuit City has 3 K6-2s and one PIII (the new kind, only available built to order), Office Max has 2 K6-2s and nothing else, Office Depot one K6-2 and one Intel, and Comp USA has 3 Intels (one is a new PIII 450) and one K6-2.

So the only way to get desktop CU-Never-Mind system from an OEM right now is to get it built to order??? And I thought OEMs were the only ones to get the chips so they should theoretically have systems available NOW, rather than BTO, at retailers.

Wasn't AMD chastised for their the Athlon only being available built-to-order at first? Looks like Intel is pulling an AMD, AGAIN!

Its still not available at Pricewatch either.

Jimmy,

Re: "A Pee-III-700 Compaq has appeared in Best Buys flyer this
morning ... There are 3 Athlons, 3 P-IIIs ..."

Did you also notice that the ATHWipes are 500MHz, 550MHz and 600MHz ?? I mean,
who really wants a 500MHz ATHWipe ??!! ... Good to see the first PIII 700's.
I believe these are also available from both Dell and HWP.

Make It So,
Yousef
