<Yes, that was a typo, the second chip is the 450. The 450 price is coming down and the 400 is going up. It may just reflect the fact that more chips are yielding at 450 MHz. If the 1.3M quantity (The Register) has any basis in reality, AMD is selling a LOT more K6-3's than last quarter. Most all the small dealers that advertise K6-2 systems also advertise K6-3 systems -- not the case a couple months ago.>

I think there is more to these rumors than that meets the eye. From all the data points I have so far it appears that K6 family will gain market share this quarter before it continues its slide in Q1. There are many indications of OEMs introducing new K6 based systems. I think Intel is ceding ground at the lowend and high end to AMD for this quarter and focussing on the mid-range. That should improve Intel's ASPs assuming the Q4 units remain robust - which Intel said they would be in the conf call the other day. This is probably a smart choice for Intel in the current situation and should also firm up K6 ASPs.

I will go out on the limb and say, assuming there are no hiccups on Athlon and AMD can hit at least the 800ku number, AMD will be profitable this quarter.

Good luck to the longs,
Chuck
