Chuck, re:< I think Intel is ceding ground at the lowend and high end to AMD for this quarter and focussing on the mid-range. That should improve Intel's ASPs assuming the Q4 units remain robust - which Intel said they would be in the conf call the other day.>

How they are ceding the low-end market to AMD - by not being aggressive or by not bundling other components as they did before? Could it also mean that there won't be any more price cuts by Intel? If true, Athlon's blended ASP may stay the same as in Q3 and may not go down as Jerry Sanders cautioned in the Q3 CC. This could mean an additional revenue of $20M - $30M! I think, AMD's tactic - announcement of its intention to sell Communication Division - is working. What do you think?

Also, as I think of more and more about the lack of PIII-733EB parts in the channel, it's becoming more clear to me that Coppermine 733MHZ was released to save Craig Barret's honor (remember about his proclamation of releasing 7xxMHZ Coppermine parts in a recent Intel developers forum). PIII-733EB-CBH ;o)

Regards,
Goutama

Charles R,

RE: I think Intel is ceding ground at the lowend and high end to AMD for this quarter and focussing on the mid-range.

What alternate universe are you living in?

Intel has AMD from below with Celeron and from above with Xeon/Coppermine. It's like being caught in the upper and lower jaws of a great white shark. AMD is about to get chewed on real hard.
