I respect Carol King, and I consider Tapestry a very good album, but the bulk of her work was just Brill Building stuff, being churned out by Neil Sedaka and her first husband with as much facility as her, and done better, in many instances, by Phil Spector and the gang at Motown. Although Joni Mitchell was less popular, her influence on her fans, who were generally among the educated elite, was more lasting, as was her unique influence on other artists......
