The decision was GUMM's to turn the results over to NEJM and then, when NEJM hadn't done so by the beginning of the cold season, it was GUMM's decision to give AJIC (who in the Hell is NJIR) a shot.

NJIR was an bit of a mixup with the JIR, which is where I would guess the study probably belongs.

That aside, you're essentially admitting, above, that GUMM shopped their study around for a journal that would deliver a publishing commitment within a time frame conducive to maximal PR value. In other words, they value quick and timely hype over true journalistic rigor, which most people around here already knew.

Enjoy while you can, just don't forget to sell at the top.
