Mike:

some additions:

Knowledge (Document) Management: FileNet & Documentum
Although I think we will see a convergence between this and what you refer to as Internet Content Marketing. Documentum has stated they have their competitive sights set on Vignette

Internet Content Marketing (I would suggest calling this Internet Content management) Add Interwoven. This company is giving Vignette a run for their money. I bought them after the IPO and holding.

Internal Help-desk add Peregrine. Check this company out. They have a very interesting approach to an emerging market called infrastructure management.

Automated Marketing (also called Enterprise Database Marketing) add Hyperion

<<Knowledge (Document) Management: Open Text, DOCS, and a third one I can't think of at the moment>>
Mike, I believe the third one is Documentum ( DCTM ). FWIW, we use both Livelink ( Open Text ) and Documentum at my office.

Merlin, were you trying to remember Documentum as an EDMS (electronic Document Mgt) pick?

Also, suggest you call Peregrine's category "Infrastructure Resource Management". FOlks should look at Datastream (DSTM) and PSDI in this category as well. Some privately held companies also play well, including AssetWorks and Facility Information Systems.

Mike Buckley: Greatly appreciate your response. I think this will be one of the new "hot sectors" in 2000 and will begin to track a few of these, especially i2Technologies, Ariba, and Peregrine Systems. Thanks.

mike
a trusted friend just informed me that cree announced in the shareholders meeting today a new contract to provide the back lighting for nokia cell phones. nokia does not permit public announcements by suppliers. i believe it is
4-6 of cree's high bright leds per phone.
these will be the brightest lit cell phones. can the others be far behind?
