Goutama,

<News Release: VIA and S3 Finalize Joint Venture viatech.com ______

Taipei, Taiwan, November 2nd, 1999 -- Formalizing their previously announced alliance, VIA Technologies (TAIEX: 2388) and S3© Incorporated (NASDAQ: SIII) today announced the establishment of a joint venture to bring high-performance integrated graphics and core logic chip sets to the volume OEM desktop and notebook PC markets.>

This above news is one of the key reasons I have been long SIII.

Ken Potashner (SIII CEO) is on record for saying that the VIA/SIII partnership is significantly ahead of their competition - I take this mean Intel's integrated chipset roadmap 810, Almador etc..

They are also doing some real damage on the design win side - both laptops and desktops. I have pretty high expectations on what this partnership can do for AMD's processor business.

Chuck

P.S.: IMHO, SIII stock price reflects the general cynicism about graphic business (which I agree with) and does not reflect the great job that Potashner has been doing.
