LG.Philips LCD Announces US$1.25B Investment Plan
November 2, 1999 (SEOUL) -- LG.Philips LCD Inc. announced a 1.4 trillion won (US$1.25 billion) investment plan on Nov. 1 aimed at securing the largest share of the global liquid-crystal display market in 2001.

LG.Philips is a joint entity of LG Electronics Inc. and Dutch electronics giant NV Philips.

The investment will help the joint firm, which was officially established on November 1, to reach its goals of US$2.4 billion in sales next year. (1,119.6 won = US$1)

Koo Bon-joon, former president of LG Semicon, was appointed to manage the infant firm, along with a former Philips Flat Display CFO.

The investment fund will be used to establish a third production line in a bid to meet growing demand in the large-scale display panel market.

The new line is slated to begin mass production in the fourth quarter of next year.
