John, I agree with you on the general trends. However it will be several years and probably more before DWDM to the home is economically viable. I also believe that DWDM and MPEG-2 can exist together, as they do now.

If a commodity product means "high volume," this is good. If it means "no margin," then this is bad. CUBE's margins are great. If DWDM appears in settops then it too will be a commodity product according to how I understand your definition.

If MPEG-2 is bad business, then why are so many companies trying to get into it?

Is the settop box silicon business also a commodity business? Settop box silicon will also be needed in DWDM settops.
