Literacy works. There have been studies on that. And job training works. Clever uneducated people don't want to work at Mc Donald's. This is certainly not a GOOD thing- but I wouldn't want to work there either.

Actually, the "crime school" argument, although not without some merit, is overblown. As it happens, even among felons, the propensity towards violence subsides markedly as they approach middle-age, as does the propensity towards risk taking, so although some people do pick up pointers in prison, if we were to incarcerate all felons until they were 40, there would be a sharp reduction in violent crime, and in those crimes, such as robbery, which carry a higher risk of trouble.....
