The problem with selling is the sentimental attachment, although I agree that they could do so and live more modestly. I am not clear about a reverse mortgage.....

You just do not understand the mindset of the elderly.

But DMA has a point, it would sure be nice if some of their grown children would help them to understand that's what is needed, but then you have to question their motives.

Zoltan, sell it and go live where? One of those extravagant retirement homes? Get a reverse mortgage and do what, strap themselves with a debt they cannot repay? Heaven forbid they go for an equity loan. They have the dubious reputation of breaking many who participate even farther into poverty. That's why they were illegal in Texas until just a year,or so, ago.
