No contradiction, the music is serviceable at moving the action forward, and is quite pleasant, but not often not thematically distinctive. I am surprised that you would find Mozart's arias more forgettable, but I cannot argue with your experience. Otherwise, I think you have made some astute observations.....

And all those dramatic dying divas!!
Have been trying all morning to remember some incident about a Tosca leaping off the parapet- and bouncing back into view.... does that ring any bells?
