Re: Analyst ratings

Analyst ratings are largely irrelevant for core holdings because their timeframes are very different than those which apply to the patient investor. Analysts earn their keep on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Investors who have the luxury of time can step back and look at the bigger picture. I have no idea where EMC will be in a 1-2 months, but I have no doubt that it will be substantially higher in 1-2 years and that its performance will handily beat the S&P 500 over that timeframe. These are exactly the sort of attributes one wants in a core holding. Until that "big picture" changes, there is no need to take any action based on day-to-day gyrations.

With internet traffic doubling every 100 days, is it remotely credible that the world will be storing less data 1, 2, or 5 years from now than it is today? The obvious answer is the obvious reason why EMC should be a core holding in any tech portfolio.
