Mr. Softee will be back over 100 soon. Might be a rough week, but I'm not about to cash in my AOL, EMC, and CSCO profits to short MSFT. Those gutsy enough to short it, ok, go ahead and set us up for a nice coiled bounce when there is a settlement.

CNBC says after studying it its a "blistering review", abusing monopoly power, particularly the binding of the browser, key paragraph "msft refusal to respect the user's choice of a default broswer fulfilled Brad Chase's promise to make the use of any browser other than IE on windows a jolting experience."

"As far asthe emergence of a viable competitor in the near future, it will take several years for MSFT to erode enuf for viable alternative..."

207 page document. CNBC: "Initially responded extraordinary arrogance...Bill Gates never went to court to be deposed...unwilling to settle any point along the way." Well, typical CNBC spin...

Who is this guy with the HUGE mustache??? It looks like he pasted it on for a dinner theater role. 88 3/4 on Instinet--they stayed open to handle the traffic they're seeing.

Seems like we discussed a long time ago on this thread that the tactical error MSFT made was binding IE to windows, as it turns out IE is actually better & that was unecessary...

KM -

Agreed. But the stock is very likely to be considerd dead money for a period of years while rememdies and class actions get on line to take a piece of MSFT.

That being the case I'd be very surprised to see any analyst not downgrading on Monday. Not becasue they don't like MSFT but simply because the obvious bet must be that the stock goes nowhere from here.

Best regards,

L

The tone of Gates and his COO's remarks say that they want to get this case over with. Either they are bluffing, and will appeal, or facing up to the path of least resistance.

I think it would be very prudent from a business point of view to settle, and then get on with their business life. Otherwise, they could die a slow death.

My bet is that they will try to settle. Its a short term hit, and will reinvigorate the already damaged moral of the company.
