Betty,

It irks me that Handspring has decided to create a new slot specifically for their Visor handheld device...

handspring.com
handspring.com

I don't understand why one would go to all that trouble when you can add an industry standard CompactFlash slot off the shelf for like $3.00 per device.

It reminds me of the early Franklin foreign language translators with their proprietary modules. But at the time these were being released the CompactFlash standard did not exist, so at least they have an excuse. Meanwhile Audible.com's decision to exlude a removable memory slot for expandability makes no sense at all.

As a result of these design-in costs you pay $10/MB for a Visor memory module
(8MB = $79.95, ouch!!!) that only holds two mp3 songs...

...oh wait, you gotta have the mp3 module as well. (And then how do you get the memory module in at the same time???)

What a rip off. They should just shoot the design engineer.

Seems like Lanier/eDig got it right!

SanDisk...every little bit counts.
