Oh Man, I wish you were around a year ago or so when this board was active. We could have gang-roasted you for your silly pronouncements. As it is, this board is somewhat dead and most of us have moved on to other things.

But I'll just point out one of your silly (as in completely without factual basis) arguments:
Then Win95 arrived with an integrated browser and MSFT made a number of cash investments in the 'Net.

Netscape Navigator was leading IE in browser share up until this year, and thus was the program that helped grow the internet.
Those tiny innovators did do it.

Win95 didn't have an 'integrated' browser until 97 or so, anyway.
Even your details about your incorrect facts are incorrect.

Thure, a few years back the number of people using the Net in a productive manner was very small. Gates gave a speech committing MSFT to making the Internet available to everyone.

Ya right.

The only two things MS is good for is employment for IT people and mastering the art of knocking off existing products by either out right copying them or buying them out.
If Netscape never had a browser MS would be at a loss on what to do.

If anybody deserves credit I think Netscape and Sun Micro would be on my list. Sun always said the network is the computer.

Man, would Dan have a time with you. Better than Reggie. I miss that guy and his sincere comments.

Anyway, IE wasn't integrated until 97 and just for your lesson - They bought the code from Spyglass. Another piece of software they couldn't write themselves.

And where did Spyglass get their code? Mosiac. Which was the browser before Netscape that those 1000 people used. So MSFT basically used a previous version of Netscape's own code to put them out of business.

Craig,

>>a few years back the number of people using the Net in a productive manner was very small.

The number of "consumers" using the Internet was small but it was used productively before 1995 and Netscape was the company that made the Internet accessible to the casual user. Netscape made the Internet accessible on Windows, Unix and the Mac at the time Microsoft realized it had missed the boat with MSN. Gates himself said the Internet was 20 years away! I think the pace of Internet growth has surprised everyone though.

Cheers,

Norm
