MB, I agree--it was one ot the most exciting BC days. I had the Sprint exacta big and Artax to win; Hit the F&M Turf exacta with a straight bet on Soaring Softly (my 3-horse box came in 1, 2, 3) and got the Turf exacta, but had more money on Val's Prince with Daylami,so I lost a bit of cash on the race. Really blew the Classic, but with the track bias I'm sure at least one of my buddy's from KY that went to Gulfstream took him at 19-1. Probably won't find out until Tuesday when they've sobered up. <g>

MB: It wasn't hard to do well in the Breeders' Cup. All you had to do was bet on the horses that wore the new nasal strip. Three long shot winners: Cash Run, Anees, and Cat Thief all won with it and, if I am not mistaken, the absurdly high odds Golden Missile, who came in 3rd in the Classic, appeared to have one on as well. Surfside, which came in 3rd in the Juvenile, was another nasal strip user.

For those interested (disclaimer: I have been very long for the last month since the product was announced) the producer of the product is CNS, Inc., of Minneapolis (CNXS $7 3/16) which is mainly known for Breathe Right Nasal Strips for humans, used in sports (a lot of the jockeys were using one) and to reduce snoring (it works great for some people, not at all for others.)

The ones for horses sell for $10 each and can only be used be used once. Patent protection is strong. They cost the company squat to make, and after the Breeders Cup results, I don't think CNXS is going to have to work too hard to sell them.

Although they are effectively a performance enhancer in some horses, what they really do is let the horse get more oxygen into the lungs, which protects against the internal bleeding, a serious problem for which the only supposed preventative has been a shot of Lasix, which everyone agrees doesn't help much for that problem. In other words, the nasal strip is good for the health of the horses, so racing commissions will all eventually approve it, because they have to pretend they care about the horses.

The potential market, if you add in trotters, polo ponies, event horses, etc. could be more than 5 million strips per year. CNXS has under 15 million shares outstanding, so the EPS effect could be very large, and it has over $3/share in cash and no debt.

Mike,

>>The handicapper in The Houston Chronicle picked Aness in the
Juvenile. I had a good laugh when I read it. I had a good cry after the race.<<

All season long the CA 2 year olds have been running very fast and impressively. When any of them shipped out they won big. (High Yield, Cap. Stevie and others) So I was looking for someone to hook up with Dixie Union and Forest Camp. Aness finished third in the last prep and was improving rapidly. I had the exactas using him all picked out as the value horse. I didn't pull the trigger, (I would have lost) but he did not surprise me. He was getting better and bred to go long.

>> Cat Thief as a spec and it helped me pay the toll on the way home. The Trifecta was $36,000, and, though I had the longshot winner, there was no way in the world I would have picked the
place and show three-legged wonders.<<

We would have made a great team here. I had the second horse at that price. I thought he was huge overlay. He just beat General Challenge who was 5-1. He also had a huge second against Real Quiet a couple of races back. I certainly didn't make him the favorite, but I thought he had a legit shot.

The track looked speed favoring. I think that may have impacted a few races. Banshee Breeze, Kona Gold/Big Jag, and Surfside might have been winners. We'll never know.
