Uncle Frank,

I know that Microsoft has taken center-stage as the topic of weekend discussion, but I'd like to request that, if not this weekend, then maybe next, we tackle the subject of spouse management in light of SI addiction.

What I mean by that is a sort of tip-and-tricks issue. Ways to have your cake, and eat it too.

It's actually scary the amount of time I spend on these boards. Too many times I have caught myself looking up from the monitor, blankly, trying to change gears quickly enough to grasp what, exactly, my wife is trying to say to me, with varying degrees of success. Or OTOH, trying to read her one of these terrific posts that, no matter how profound, succinct or entertaining to me, somehow come off a wee bit out of context to one who doesn't participate regularly.

At this point, she is both gracious and loving and has showered me with all the love and adoration that a man could want (QCOM?) but I fear that long-term she'll need more than a two-week vacation and an occaisional walk. I have only been married 5 years, but do I really want to become the stereotypical, Pull-the-newspaper-down-from-my-face, "Yesss, dearrrr," husband? I think not... You old timers gotta help me out here. What works? What doesn't? Are there absolutes and universals in a situation like this? Come on girls, you should have a say in this too.

Sincerely, Aloha Mike

Uncle Frank, the current list should be preserved for the historical record (what else would you expect Thucydidies to suggest?) and a new one begun afresh for 2000.

(My own portfolio list are carried quarterly, allowing me to see relative changes in rather large chunks. Over time, it may also help me see seasonal changes. I'm not suggesting this as a t-word device, but it might help keep money working more aggressively in some situations. Can't say that for sure, but maybe.)

There are a lot of changes I think need to be made in the G&K Index, but we decided a month or so ago to leave the index intact until the end of the year to maintain integrity of our total ytd returns. I made an exception with Siebel since Merlin has been championing it for so long and his contentions are proving out so well. But I thought we'd leave wholesale re-evaluation as a year end project.

If the thread disagrees with this approach, I'll be happy to accommodate.

Frank

Agreed UnQ; maybe we can spend the last week of Dec. rethinking our lists.

Apollo

I just wanted to say how much i enjoy this thread (just joined SI because of it.) It is now my favorite internet haunt!

I stumbled on it a few months ago after seeing the word gorilla. After buying emc in 1992, my investment goal has been to find more investments with similar long term returns and I always thought of emc as the 600 pound gorilla of storage.

I bought some qcom in March. If i had ran across this thread at that time, I know i would have added more shares by now. Now that I've found it, I plan to pick most of my investments from the ones talked about on this site.

JDSU will soon be part of my portfolio as they bought ocli that i also picked up in March.

Thanks to all for the great posts and insight shared here!
