I made this comment a while back and I think it is still viable. As long as AMD brings out high MHz processors that they can't produce in volume, and Intel only matches those MHz levels with chips it can produce in volume, prices remain higher than if Intel is leading AMD. In effect Intel allows AMD to charge a premium, taking Intel chip prices with it. If AMD starts to increase volume, then Intel would intro a higher MHz processor, and drop prices on the current crop.
