V,

They didn't get it!? Did they finish high school!? JK, sort of...

I hope you are well. Boy this is a dynamic thread. Lots of back and forth. I kind of like it though! <gg>

Who's Q gonna buy now?

Voltaire and MileHigh,

After a discussion I had with my neighbors (who do not have internet access), I am starting to understand: even if buying one share right now will yield four shares in less than two months, the price of QCOM right now terrifies some people. Psychologically, some people can cope with buying a stock at, say, 72.5 and stomach it temporarily dropping to 60 at lot easier than buying a stock at 290 with the possibility that it might drop--even for two days--to 240.

My neighbors like QCOM but just cannot psychologically deal with buying 25 shares at 290. Even though they know their chances of spending more for their shares after the split than before, they would still rather buy 100 shares post split.

Its the fear of heights. If my neighbors are typical of a major segment of people who want shares of QCOM but do not hold any now, I anticipate greater price appreciation right after than right before the split.

If they can't understand how $294 per share can be a good value maybe you could explain the upside. They will be getting 4 shares for the price of 1.
