Mani,

<WOW! Have anyone seen this? Pretty cool in my opinion,

AMD Launches National Television Commercial to Support the AMD Athlon Processor>

I actually think they should have started this couple of weeks back to leverage the non-avialability of CuMines in the channel. Now, if AMD can use next weekend to reclaim the bragging rights on the MHz....

On a slightly different note: What is even cooler, I think, is people seem to be waking up to the realization what incremental volumes of Athlon will do to AMD's bottom line.

You heard it here first - AMD will be **decidedly** profitable this quarter! (of course assuming no glitches on Athlon/motherboard angle)

Looking forward to the conf call.

Good luck to the AMD longs (which, I guess, includes pretty much every Intel long foul-mouthing AMD on this thread)

Chuck

Thanks for posting it. AMD is taking very calculated and methodical steps. I think this is the right time to start advertising as motherboard issue has gotten a lot better and Athlon at a very reasonable volume. As far as the mother boards are concerned, I don't think the mobo supply is a problem any more. The next step we have to look forward with motherboards is for more choices, lower prices from increased competition, new chipsets with powerful features to utilize the head room left in Athlons. IMHO, by the time we get into Q1'00, AMD will be in a great position with strong Athlon system infrastructure, newer products, advance chipsets. I don't think Intel has any more tricks left to stop AMD's future progress. Ted indicated in one of his recent posts to me - "there was a time when intc ruled, and when it spoke, the rest of the world rocked. I think that time is over" - which is the correct description of current Intel.

Goutama

Mani, <AMD Launches National Television Commercial>

I must say, it's about time. This will probably be a very positive thing for AMD. If Apple was able to dupe people into thinking that the PowerPC processor was "twice as fast" as a Pentium II, even though the claim was based on extremely shaky ground, imagine how many people will be convinced about Athlon's strengths, especially since AMD's claims hold more merit than Apple's.

I'm still not too crazy about the upside potential of AMD stock in the short term, since I doubt that even flashy commercials can be enough for a pop. My eyes are still focused on "the real money," a.k.a. Fab 30.

Mani - RE: "AMD Launches National Television Commercial to Support the AMD Athlon Processor"

That is so awesome!

It's about time.

The great thing is that the commercials will be on during prime time. When AMD had their lame 3DNow! commercials last year, I saw it one or two times during the 10 o'clock news, not during prime time.

"The new commercial will run through the holiday season, nationwide on the ABC network and ESPN. It will appear on prime-time shows like Monday Night Football, Spin City, The Practice, The Drew Carey Show and during ABC's Thanksgiving-night movie, Forest Gump."

I look forward to seeing it during some of these shows.
