Also, noted the lack of discussion of CDMA -2000. He emphasized the "flexibility" of HDR, and seemed to de-emphasize BOTH WCDMA and CDMA-2000. I intrepreted the message as IF and WHEN the market REQUIRES wider bandwidth/3G systems, he'll compete.

I agree. Thanks for pointing that out. HDR offers 3G like capabilities about 2 years sooner than 3G.

Now that I think about it I wonder if the whole push for 3G standards (which started in Europe) wasn't an attempt to define 3G as a standard with capabilities that went just beyond what an upgrade to IS-95 could accomplish. You would expect the capabilities of 3G would be based upon the minimum bandwidth/device that would allow full-motion video and stereo sound on a portable device. Since HDR will allow that, but is shy of full 3G specs, that raises this question.

Tricky. Good thing Qualcomm isn't letting it slow them down. I get the impression the development team at Qualcomm is firing on all cylinders.
