Nothing really new there except for the line sharing and by "line sharing" I think they're talking about a relatively new idea that Tech Team has talked about before. You see - in a lot of areas there isn't any free copper or the cost of the copper is high so someone got the idea of "sharing" an existing pair by letting a DSL company ride their signal over a telco's existing voice circuit. In effect you'd have two providers sharing the same CO Loop copper.

Regardless, the idea of "forcing" telcos to allow another company to ride it's DSL signal over the telco's existing voice circuit is relatively new but has also been challenged once in court and the DSL company won the decision, whether this will stand up in other courts is anybody's guess as obviously the telcos want to keep ALL of their line's potential properties to themselves. Another thing that the telcos don't like is the fact that the DSL provider could digitize and multiplex inter-office voice along with the DSL data as also mentioned in the release. No real big deal there, quite a few companies build integration muxes to allow inter-office voice to ride along with the inter-office data, even little 'ole RACE makes products for this: datarace.com
