Reuters, Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at 06:37

PARIS, Nov 10 (Reuters) - French telecommunications
equipment group Alcatel said on Wednesday it had clinched a $360
million contract with Brazilian telecommunications operator
Intelig.
"This is an important development for us," Chief Executive
Serge Tchuruk told a telephone conference with analysts and
journalists, adding that the contract focused on fibre optic
technology and network management.
Tchuruk said the fibre optic sector was very promising.
Intelig, formerly Bonari, is controlled by Sprint (NYSE:FON),
National Grid (ISEL:NGG) and France Telecom (SBF:FTE). It is
developing a long-distance network to compete with former
state-run operator Embratel (SAO:EBTP3).

>>'If they make their fourth-quarter numbers they will be on
their way to recovery of their market-credibility,'' said Burkel.<<

This is gonna be one hot stock, as I'm pretty darn confident they will make their 4Q numbers...maybe even an upside surprise. Not an whole lot of resistance between here and 44 or so, the all time high.

FOCUS-Alcatel posts Q3 profit, confirms forecasts
09:00 a.m. Nov 10, 1999 Eastern
By Gillian Handyside

An excerpt...

''Alcatel is one of the most attractive companies on the stock market,'' said one Paris-based analyst, who declined to be identified. He told Reuters he expected a further rise in the share price, which has gained 50 percent since January.

But he said that while Alcatel was returning to profitability, it still had some way to go before it could catch up with competitors such as Nortel or Lucent, in areas including Internet and mobile technology.

''Recovery is on course but there's still a way to go. And we will have to wait until next year before Alcatel gets its new products on the market,'' he said.

He said Alcatel was likely to meet its targets, seen by some analysts as rather conservative, but it was unclear whether it could do much better.''We still have a rather strange fourth quarter to come because of the year 2000,'' he said.
