O.T.
Chaz,
This is a good time to remember all Veterans but especially all those who did not make it home. Did you serve in Europe during WWII? I was there with the 30th Inf. Div. At the time of the Ardennes action my Company met the German Ist SS Panzar division, which was commanded by Col. Pieper, in the village of Stoumont, Belgium. Most of my Company were captured. I was held in the castle at La Gleize, where I helped take care of both German and American wounded. I was a Medic. To make a long story short, The 82nd came and cut off the German penetration. They retook the Castle. I returned to my unit. It was Christmas Eve. Thanks.
When the Germans retreated Col. Pieper spoke to me as they left the non-ambulatory wounded there with me. He was later tried for war crimes. Found guilty on the basis of his troops being responsible for the "Malmady" massacre. After he served years in prison he was released, built a hunting cabin in France and was found shot to death on his porch one A.M. The Murder was never solved.
I visited This area in 1995. It was an emotional experience.
Thanks again,

Everett
