Nothing but harm could come from a DOJ ruling that carves MS up into many little pieces. Carving out and separating the OS division from the remainder of MS is, what I suspect, the goal of DOJ here.

Are you aware of any substantial Republican inclination to let MSFT off the hook on this one?

Not really. I just look at the history books and see a substantially biased, pro-business stance taken by the Republican party ever since T. Roosevelt left office.

Also, the cynic in me wonders how G. W. Bush can amass such a large campaign warchest in such a short period of time. I wonder who Mr. Bush will owe his allegiance to once elected. I wonder if the American people really care.

It does appear that the the Republican party is intent on winning this election. If GW can withstand the scrutiny associated with the path he's chosen I find him, at this early stage, unbeatable. Historically that bodes well for business, and in this case would not hurt Microsoft in the least.
