This area has a lot of cultural stuff, museums, movies, theater, galleries, restaurants, universities, libraries, lectures. And it's also got a lot of outdoor stuff, the Blue Ridge mountains are close, you can ride a bike on the W&OD trail all the way out into the mountains if you want, or kayak on the Potomac, or go hiking on the Appalachian trail, which is less than an hour away. There is skiing less than two hours away, both down-hill and cross-country. The ocean is a four hour drive. I like it here.

Justin,
Go out 290 West to Cypress, get off at the Skinner Road exit and take a left. At Old Hempstead Road, turn right down to the old Josey Ranch grain silos, turn left over the tracks on House-Hahl Road.

When you get to the other end at Katy-Hockley Road, you'll have experienced pastoral close to Houston. You can turn right and it'll take you back to 290 and right back to Houston.

People with motorcyles find the scenic routes.

If you don't like that one, let me know, there's another between Hempstead and Monaville that's better but it's a little further out.
