I'm sold! I don't guess 57 is too late to start over, is it?
Could be rejuvenating, actually.

If my friend gets transferred to Fairfax, I'm curious to
see how she likes it. She's 50 and has planned to retire
to her native Dallas area. Several years in Virginia might
change her mind.

The Washington and Old Dominion was still a going operation when I lived in Arlington. The tracks ran through the woods behind my house, crossing Carlyn Springs Road. It was a light freight operation using small diesels. The W&OD originally had been built as an interurban line providing passenger and light freight service, and I think it used to run out to the carousel at Great Falls-- though I might be mistaken. It's western terminus was the little town of Snicker's Gap up in the mountains, but the W&OD got them to change the name to Bluemont.

Somewhere I have a stash of very, very flat pennies that were run over by the mighty locomotives of the W%OD.
