survivin, re: <Perhaps this conservative guidance is designed to make them look good when they mount up the mustang in q2. Any ideas? >

Not really. Thunderbird (Workstation), Spitfire(value) and Mustang(server, mobile) will use Enhanced Athlon core - due in second half of the year 2000.

I think, the Athlon in its current form will be produced at Dresden in the first half of next year.

survivin,

<Doesn't this statement imply that Dresden (cu only?) isn't contributing to revenues until 2nd half '00. Granted, it could be a ZDnet freudian slip, but I was under the impression Dresden would become a major contributor in the 2nd Q. Perhaps this conservative guidance is designed to make them look good when they mount up the mustang in q2. Any ideas? >

There was a clear message in the conf call that Dredend is mid-next year. However, all the data point I have suggest that this is a sandbagged schedule. I could be wrong but I see Dresden production in late Q1 for the following reasons.

- Dresden Cu part running at 900MHz was demonstrated today at the analyst conference. They are qualifying the process now. From my experience in the industry it should not take too long to get to production from here.
- I have info from multiple places at this point saying that Dresden bin-splits and yields so far are very good.
- I have info to suggest that Dresden was not brought online because of marketing (motherboard/chipset/infrastructure) and depreciation issues

Like everything else in today's conf call I think Dresden was also sandbagged.
