[November 11, 1999--MUMBAI] IBM India has launched a new solution christened "ISP-in-a-box" for class-C ISPs in India. The solution facilitates faster and easier deployment of services over the Web.

The smaller ISPs with a subscriber base of 10,000 can meet the needs of the customers and can increase their profitability, claims IBM India. ISP-in-a-box is an all-in-one solution for effectively deploying services over the Web, including an IBM Netfinity server, Linux operating system, selected application software and IBM support and service.

The new solution, priced at US $ 47,619, this new solution offers a one year warranty for networking equipment and a three-year warranty for servers, besides customization at an extra cost.

"ISP-in-a-box assists service providers to maintain and extend their core services within an environment that is consistent, highly manageable and easy to tailor to the evolving requirements of their subscribers," said Rajiv Sachdev, IBM General Manager, Networking Services.

The new initiatives are part of IBM's new worldwide strategy to tap the ISP market that was announced in the US in last week. In India, the company claimed to have roped in 16 ISPs. The ISPs can retain the same solution when they upgrade themselves to class-B.

"With these new offerings, we have addressed the fact that ISPs can no longer afford to devote most of their attention to building networks and infrastructure" Rajiv said.

IBM has also unveiled its "Partner-World for Service Providers' program in India. Member ISPs can leverage the strength of IBM's global brand and e-business mind share, besides a range of offerings, which will help them, offer value-added e-business services.

IBM will deliver a broad range of products, services, technical support and marketing programs to ISPs through this program. This would help ISPs differentiate their services and increase service levels to meet new market opportunities, according to Timothy Wong, Executive-Asia Pacific, IBM Global Service Provider Industry
