re: MDR also; what is the impact here of the Pro Short Sellers ?

... and I am not referring to the imaginary shares that worp, or gorp, or whatever his name is; claims he shorted either... (VBG).

gotta think, there is a $3 bounce when the shorts decide to take profits alone.

Time will tell... the company obviouslly has some serious triage to do; and hopefully is meeting with analysts as we speak. .... or, they stay silent & take the damn thing private with a LBO (VBG) at these prices...

It's probably not Johns Manville either, but IMO "asbestos" is one of those Wall Street "fear and loathing" words. While MDR is, IMO, commanding a lot of thread bandwidth today (justifiably so) the OSX seems to be doing quite well.

On the very recent run to OSX 80, many stocks peeked over their 50 dma's. This was short term resistance and some profit taking came in. With $24 oil the next move up should take most stocks solidly through the 50 day. Then comes the classic sell off back to the 50 day which IMVVHO will be the launch pad for a major rally.

This is weird. Either this is the screaming buy of the decade or there is a bomb waiting to blow up that I can't see. I don't know which way it'll go, but I'm sure it's not going to stay where it is. So I bought Dec 10 calls & 7 1/2 puts. Perfect trade for the indecisive.-g-

Slider: MDR - "has insurance for these product liability claims"

I don't think the company would make the following statement if insurance was going to cover the claims:

This could have a ``material adverse impact' on its financial position and business prospects, the company said.

Buying by the usual suspects on our thread won't be enough for any type of bounce. Big buyers won't step in until they get further info from the company. Maybe we'll drift back to 9 1/2, but any move to something like $13 is not going to happen until the water is safe. I haven't bought (since the decline) any yet, maybe Mon. morning if there is still some selling I'll take a look.
