Making numbers?

<<Then why would NOVL be selling off large chunks of Corel and Santa Cruz stock at a loss to affect their earnings
bottom line 2nd and 3rd quarter, and presumably fourth?>>

I guess they thought they could afford to divest themselves of what were no longer strategic investments. And I guess they thought they couldn't afford to advertise. Ironically, SCO is the perpetual energizer bunny of UNIX and has lately bounced back nicely.

I see the future of digitalme in sigle signon to Internet services. In other words, I think it is more of an infrastracture than a consumer play. I think Novell can succeed by positioning itself as infrastructure for the Internet. It seems to work for Inktomi.

I think Novell should find the coolest, edgiest most outrageous ad company and spend a big pile of dough for something like Apple's "Think Different" and put it on TV every day for the next year. That would turn everyone at Novell into maketing geniuses. It's kind of like what Earl weaver said about 20-game winners and homerun hitters turning baseball managers into geniuses.
