PMSW: That is what is so flawed about any of these remedies. The companies that would buy the code would be forever claiming that it wasn't all there or that MSFT pulled a fast one and on and on. SHort of lobotomizing the brains of the folks at MSFT there is nothing that is going to work to the satisfaction of MSFT's critics. JFD

I think it is a moot point, MSFT does not have to do anything to its source code to make it anymore difficult.

The gentlemen and women that work with the source code at MSFT are paid $400K+ a year not counting stock options. This code is millions of lines long. Even if it was released, the time required by an outsider to understand the code and do anything with it in an efficient manner is highly unlikely. By the time they figure out what is going on, we are five years down the road and something else will be going on anyway.

I don't think anyone would even bid to buy it. Hands down, Gates can take his own money and always pay the key people that deal with the Windows source code more than anyone else on earth could or would be willing to pay for their services. Judge PJ may be able to mess with MSFT the company but he will be treading on very very very thin ice if he attempts to tell people where they may or may not work or how much they can or can not be paid.
