I think you touched a valid point. Microsoft has embarked on the accumulation of a great deal of brain-power. I believe this has never been attempted before, and as a result, neither the competition or the regulators know how to deal with it; hence, rather inappropriate responses by both groups.

Many Microsoft investors know exactly where the value of their company resides, and also recognize that this value is not threatened in any way by the DOJ, AGs, and competitors. This partially explains the anemic market reaction to the FoF: A 'devastating' document, as the media brands it.

Keep the cool head, and watch your pockets: They'll be overflowing soon enough.

... The companies that would buy the code would be forever claiming that it wasn't all there ...

Microsoft could defend themselves against such claims by comparing the executable code generated with the executable code of Windows as made available to the public. This would be bulletproof logic.
