That's right...we'd pay tax on the appreciation of jdx in American dollars..what though is the PERCENT TAX RATE you would have to pay on say a 100,000 profit.....here it would be 20% of the entire profit, if you held it for longer than a year, I think...thanks

OT

If you are a professional trader you pay tax on 100% of you capital gains but also get to write off all you trading costs (e.g. computers, paper, rent, phone, etc.).

If such is the case Keith, Revenue Canada considers the profit generated by the 'businness' as being income. This categorization allows you to deduct certain business related expenses from said amount.
