I don't know the technical details of the iPaq implementation, but I do know the Windows 2000 OS. To get the full benefits of the legacy-free platform, the hardware can not even be in the box - it can't be discovered by the OS, the ports can't be visible to the CPU. I believe that the legacy-free iPaq has no serial, parallel or ps/2 ports, and that those are added via a "daughter card".

I will be at COMDEX next week and I'll see if I can get the detail on that.
