I've only been on stretches of Rte. 66 between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. There are lots of places to get excellent barbecue. Best barbecue I had was from a little shack of a place that sat no more than 10 or 12 people. It is the local specialty cuisine after all. That and Oklahoma caviar; black-eyed peas, tomatoes, onions, olives, peppers, tabasco sauce, and salad dressing.

I did route 66 on my way home from Austin last year, most of it has been morphed into a freeway but in Arizona it branches off by itself into this windy time warp. Its beautiful scenery, and there are deserted gas stations from the 50s I think when they built the new freeway. A few of the businesses are still operational. I wished I had a Kharman Ghia instead of a BMW.
