Peter,

My observation of irrational valuations is not only relevant in the case of 3Com valuation, but actually the only explanation I can come up with. This happens a lot in the market today. The spotlight shines on a few favorites and the vast majority of stocks wallow in anonymity and irrational valuation compared to the few shining stars. In the case of 3Com, the Palm IPO will put the spotlight on Palm and by extension on 3Com, and thus push the market to arrive at a proper valuation.

I agree, we need the bears to come out and tell us. However, street valuation is almost always irrational. If they like it, exuberance. Otherwise, back inside the penalty box.

Palm will likely to take off on ipo. But what about coms on its own going forward? Will it be ok without a take over because it's a disticnt possibility. Put the spotlight on that, and you will feel better with your investment decision.
