Intel allows AMD to survive to avoid the same type of monopoly problems that MSFT's going through.

Lyle,>>>Nobody here can arque that AMD is gaining ground. That is an absolute fact.<<<

It is deja vu all over again. We have heard this story before. Remember K6? Remember K5? Now it is K7 (or Athlon or whatever).

But did you ever wonder why the guy who is credited with designing the K7 left the company? Would he leave the company if it were going to be a big hit? Isn't this like insider selling (in a big way)?

Nevertheless, this is what Ashok Kumar at Piper Jaffray had to say: "`I don't know why analysts would believe what this clown company has to say,...Maybe they will hit two quarters, and then they will blow up."

Lyle, <Nobody here can arque that AMD is gaining ground. That is an absolute fact.>

"Absolute fact" if you discount the fact that Intel's Celeron has been regaining the marketshare originally lost to AMD K6-2. "Absolute fact" if you discount the fact that Intel has been responding very well to competitive pressure from Athlon with the new Pentium III (Coppermine) core. "Absolute fact" if if you ignore Intel's upcoming Merced and Willamette processors. "Absolute fact" if you ignore that AMD has been losing money for quite a while now.

But I guess it all depends on your definition of "absolute fact."
